“You’re coming with me,” I said, after the barest nod towards Carlee, who was still wearing her pajamas.

They both stared at me, open-mouthed. Jas was dressed in borrowed sweat pants and a loose tee. She’d hardly brought any clothes over from England, I knew. “No.” She raised her hand, pulling Carlee back.

“Jas. You have a choice. You can be mine, or not. You can tell me to leave and I will go away and never bother you again. Or, you can come with me, now.”

“That’s like emotional blackmail or something,” Carlee said.

“No,” Jas said again. “It’s okay, Carlee. “We’ve got some stuff to work out. I have made a choice. This is how it is.”

“The submissive thing? I don’t get it.”

“I’m sorry,” she said, and I think she was saying it to Carlee but I wasn’t sure. She stepped past her friend and took my hand.
